Paediatric Chiropractor North Canberra

Gentle, age-appropriate care for babies, children, and teenagers

  • An unsettled baby, colic, or difficulties with feeding

  • A preference for turning the head to one side, or restricted neck movement in an infant

  • Concerns about developmental milestones or coordination

  • Balance difficulties or clumsiness in a toddler or child

  • Postural concerns in a school-age child or teenager

  • Back or neck pain in an older child or teenager

  • Recurring headaches in children

  • Sports or activity-related complaints in an active child

At Synergy Chiropractic Centre in Macquarie, we care for patients from newborn onwards. Paediatric chiropractic uses very gentle, age-appropriate techniques that look nothing like the adjustments used for an adult. The pressure used for a newborn is no more than you would apply to check whether a tomato is ripe. Our chiropractors have postgraduate training in caring for babies, children, and teenagers, and take a thorough, careful approach to every young patient they see.

Are you concerned about any of the following?

Children are not small adults. Their spines and nervous systems are developing continuously, and the approach to assessment and care must reflect that. Techniques are always adapted to the age, size, and developmental stage of the child. What we use for a newborn is entirely different to what we use for a ten-year-old, and different again for a teenager.

Our chiropractors and their paediatric training

Dr Natasha Pragnell holds a Diplomate in Chiropractic Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics and, as a mother of two active children, brings both personal and clinical insight to her work with babies and young patients. Her particular focus areas include infant neurodevelopment, orofacial and myofunctional health, retained primitive reflexes, and developmental milestones.

Dr Lindi Vanzwan also holds the Diplomate in Chiropractic Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics and has extensive experience with newborns, infants, and young children. Her own experience of three pregnancies and the early stages of motherhood has deepened her understanding of what families navigate in those first months and years.

Dr Cara Sharp has completed postgraduate paediatric training and regularly sees children and teenagers in the practice. She has a particular understanding of the physical demands placed on young bodies through sport and activity.

What to expect at your child's first appointment

The initial appointment for a child follows the same thorough process as for any new patient. We take a detailed history, carry out an age-appropriate examination, and explain what we find before doing anything. Parents are present and involved throughout, and we welcome questions at every stage.

Do you see newborns?

Yes! And you do not need a specific complaint to do it. Many parents bring their newborn in as part of a postnatal visit for themselves, and the baby is assessed at the same appointment. Others come in because something feels off -- a feeding difficulty, an unsettled pattern, a preference for one side -- but they are not sure if it is a chiropractic matter or not. That uncertainty is exactly the right reason to come in. We will take a thorough look and give you an honest answer. If chiropractic care is appropriate, we will explain why and what it involves. If it is not, we will tell you that too and point you in the right direction.

Our Macquarie clinic is set up to welcome families. You do not need to have everything figured out before you call.
