Posture Assessment
North Canberra

Postural assessment as part of a broader approach to spinal health

Poor posture is rarely a standalone problem. In most cases it is the visible sign of underlying issues in the way the spine and surrounding structures are loaded, aligned, and functioning. At Synergy Chiropractic Centre in Macquarie, we assess posture in the context of your overall spinal health, movement patterns, and lifestyle rather than in isolation.

Signs that posture may be contributing to your symptoms

  • Persistent aching across the upper back, neck, or lower back

  • Fatigue or discomfort after sitting or standing for extended periods

  • A visible forward head position or rounding of the upper back

  • One shoulder sitting higher than the other

  • Difficulty standing upright without conscious effort

  • Recurring headaches with a postural or muscular component

  • Concerns about your child's posture or the way they carry themselves

Posture changes gradually and is influenced by many factors, including habitual positioning during work and study, muscle strength and flexibility, footwear, sleep habits, and the way the spine and pelvis are functioning at a joint level. This means that addressing posture effectively requires looking at the whole picture rather than simply telling someone to sit up straight.

Our approach at Synergy Chiropractic Centre

A postural assessment at Synergy is part of your broader initial examination. We look at how you stand, how you move, and how the spine and pelvis are functioning, and consider how your work, training, and daily habits are affecting your physical presentation.

Where appropriate, we will provide guidance on postural awareness, ergonomics, and exercise strategies that are specific to your situation. Any structural or joint-level contributors are addressed through care where relevant.

Posture in children and teenagers

We regularly see children and teenagers whose parents have concerns about their posture. Growing bodies go through significant changes, and not all postural variation is a problem. However, persistent complaints, significant asymmetry, or postural patterns affecting function are worth assessing properly. We are experienced in working with younger patients and take an age-appropriate approach throughout.

If you have concerns about your posture or your child's posture, we would be glad to carry out a thorough assessment at our Macquarie clinic.
